Hideaway in one end of Harajuku

A treehouse in a quiet corner in Harajuku, Tokyo?

Last November, armed with a mobile phone captured map, we headed for some refreshment after shopping at Beams. 'Fashionista' R likes Beams very much. Situated just a stone throw away from Beams in the back alleys of Harajuku area and nestled amongst some homes and hair salons, we found our tree. Actually, we walked pass it. I found it only after I looked up.

The lone treehouse along the quiet lane.

Then, I wanted very much to visit this cafe because rare it is in Singapore where buildings are built around a tree. Moreover, the cafe is in a treehouse! Trees are not as appreciated in Singapore. Especially so now with the bad weather, roadworks and the new downtown line construction. I hope the disappeared trees along Rochor Road are the 'instant' trees kept at the new Botanic Garden's nursery situated next to the Marina Barrage.

We ran into TV crew filming the cafe.

The table that was built around the tree.

The cafe staff seated us in the loft as a Japanese TV station was filming the cafe. I think Hideaway cafe been featured in a number of newspapers, magazines and TV programmes. The short refreshment break soon became a longer break as the 2 nosey persons watched the action downstairs.

That's R with his polka dot jeans. I can easily spot him in the crowds in busy Tokyo.
Hideaway cafe is located up the colourful stairs.

Ice kohiied, the 2 of us left for more shopping. BTW, I asked the owner, yes they will make a new table when the tree outgrew its current allocated table space. I like trees.

  1. Sigh only in this kind of countries. I love that tree in the house ... actually have seen similar ones in interior design mags.

  2. Apparently, there is another treehouse above the skylight in this treehouse cafe. Not accessible to the public. I saw them introducing it in a travelogue.
