Shall I eat the cakes or shall I not?

Four cakes to be eaten. Which should I eat?

I should be sensible and eat one cake and not all four cakes at one go. There are cakes in the fridge waiting to be eaten! Last night, I was really tempted to eat all the cakes after dinner. It was just one of those days I want to eat everything in sight. It was really, "Should I? Should I not?"

Tea break by the balcony. Mango mousse cake

The cakes were from Bakerzin. For nostalgia sake, those who stayed in Marine Drive years ago, you may remember the battle between the two bakeries, Seng Choong Confectionery vs Tip Top. Yes, Bakerzin started from Owner Daniel Tay's dad's humble neighbourhood bakery. I remembered my mum telling me that the son of my favourite baker had returned from his overseas baking stint. Ah, the new beautiful cake display, square sponge cakes with the artfully arranged round shavings of chocolate. It was a world difference from the usual creamy cartoon- character cakes one sees at a bakery. The cakes were really pleasing to the eye. I stopped and stared everytime I walked past the shop.

They rebranded themselves too. No longer just a neighbourhood bread shop but a real cake shop. Together with their new modern blue signage with decent typography, they were the best in the hood. I guess my design awareness started young, food I eat should look pleasing and if the overall packaging is good, I am for it. Not to mention, the uncle and auntie manning the shop had winsome smiles, unlike their neighbour Tip Top a few shops down the passageway.

One can't live without sweets, ya? BTW, I am partial to the passionfruit meringue from The Patissier. Hint. Wink. Wink! Or anyone knows a place that sells an excellent lemon curd tard? My next stop for great cakes will be Flor Patisserie at Duxton Hill set up by Chef Yamashita formerly from Pâtisserie GlacĂ© at Icon Village.

For now, as long as the cake is good... Mmmm, one down, three pieces to go. Maybe the cheese cake next? Is there a limit to how many cakes one should eat in a day? I didn't eat lunch... : P

  2. Their strawberry cake was like $6.50 for a slice but it was terrific. I had the cakes at the Novena Square.

  3. I like that you singled out the Mango Mousse cake cos that was the one I'd have gone for out of the four!
